On a slide whistle you blow into it and move the slide up and down to change the pitch. Why is that? Well, it's because they think it's boring, complicated and too much hard work. You see, guitar playing is like the lessons that you learn in school. Oh yes, they mean to get around to it, but they hardly ever do. What does mastering the basics entail? There are 6 basic steps you need to follow: 1. Try out both thumb positions and use the one that is most comfortable for you. 5 You can start by playing simply melodies like that of nursery rhymes. Slowly play these notes and make sure that you concentrate to learn notes well. This is a common thumb position for constructing chords. Mastering the basics can be a lot of fun if you go about it in a methodical set-by-step way. After this lesson, you will be able to Google the Guitar Tab for pretty much any song that you want and be playing the melody line or main riff within minutes! Learning how to play guitar well is not easy. In music, the musical notes (tones, pitches, whatever you call them) are changed by pitch. 5 You must know the notes by heart, you have to be motivated and you must be persistent. This is what blank Guitar Tab looks like..

Pick up your guitar and place the back of the guitar against your stomach. There are usually about 20 something frets on a standard guitar.
