This
bass cabinet, which can easily handle 1200 watts of power,
represents the cutting edge in bass speaker cabinet design. It
was created for the player who demands ultimate performance at
high volume levels, as well as the discriminating bassist who
requires flexibility when utilizing effects. Groundbreaking in design, the Megoliath
was constructed with two independent compartments that each house four
10 inch custom SWR speakers. This design enables the cabinet
to be run in either stereo or mono. In stereo
mode a signal can be split into two different sections
of the cabinet for true stereo separation. In mono, all
8 speakers work together to create a truly massive sound.
Very much like the SWR Goliath III, the upper section
of the Megoliath is a 4x10 enclosure equipped with a
standard SWR tweeter. The lower section has the same 4x10
speaker design but without the tweeter. Stereo signals are routed
to the appropriate speaker section to obtain the optimum sound
for the player's application. For example, distortion, which sounds best
when used without a tweeter, can be run through the
bottom half of the Megoliath. Effects such as reverb, chorus,
and delay are sent to the top half of the
Megoliath. This unique SWR feature allows the player to achieve
optimum efficiency from effects while still retaining the "bottom end"
of the true bass signal. Although it is large by
nature, the Megoliath was designed by the engineering team at
SWR to offer maximum portability. It comes equipped with several
unique SWR features that make transportation simple. These features include
Grab Bar handles on its top and heavy duty casters
on its bottom, inset handles located on the bottom of
the cabinet for lifting, and skids on the back for
pushing it onto a stage or into a vehicle.
