You can also use an instruction book. You must know the notes as well as their names, and most especially their sounds. Learning to play guitar notes will be very hard if you don’t have your own guitar. Right now all you see are the 6 lines (6 Strings) I know you’re thinking “why is it upside down?” I have no idea. 1 Know them by heart. If you want to play any instrument, you have to have one and this is especially true if you want to play a guitar. You can start by playing simply melodies like that of nursery rhymes. You don’t want to put your finger on the metal fret itself…but just slightly to the right of it produces the best sound. 1 Here is a link to a great resource *WITH VIDEO* to show you what it looks like to strum and play and hold the guitar! However, that site also continues to teach traditionally and we are here to learn the guitar OVERNIGHT! So, let’s not spend too much time over there. Even if it seems that it’s hard to learn the notes, if you really want to learn how to play the notes.

You don’t need an expert teacher in order to learn these things. Learn to play and apply the triads to the most common chord progressions that fit thousands and thousands of songs. 1 Strings aren’t meant to only be played open. If you are right handed, the guitar neck should be pointing towards your left. Oh yes, they mean to get around to it, but they hardly ever do. 5. 1 Again, you must stick with simple songs. Learn the names of all notes on all strings, one string at a time. Triads are simple 3-note chords. On a slide whistle you blow into it and move the slide up and down to change the pitch.

1 Learn how to construct a C Major scale. Your hand should be positioned directly above the sound hole in the guitar. These 6 lines represent the 6 strings on your guitar. Learn the triad patterns for the C major scale all over the fret board. 1 . When you place your finger (form your left hand) in between two frets and hold down the string you are then prepared to strum or pick the string with your right hand. The Top Line represents the thinnest or ‘highest pitched’ string on your guitar. It is also ok to press your thumb into the back of the guitar neck when constructing chords, although this is more common when playing scales. 1 (Because the string is getting shorter!). Everyone knows nursery rhymes and even if you’re all grown up, you still know.
